The Genome of Europe (GoE) project has officially launched, aiming to create the first European reference genome by early 2028. With contributions from 51 institutes across 27 countries and a €45M budget, it will map Europe’s genomic diversity, involving over 100,000 participants.
Romania’s Genomics Research and Development Institute (GDRI) plays a pivotal role in this initiative, ensuring local genomic diversity is included. This effort aligns with the 1+MG Initiative to integrate national genomic data and the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project, enabling access to genomic resources for healthcare and research across Europe.
By 2028, this data will revolutionize disease prevention, diagnosis, and personalized treatments, directly benefiting Romania’s healthcare system.
This collaboration will place Romania at the forefront of precision medicine and public health advancements.
