A project initiated by Director-General Octavian Bucur more than a year ago, it was the first project of the Genomic Events group within the CGDI, launched in 2024 through a competition organized with the support of SSMB.
In the last month of the event, the project was consolidated and expanded by Deputy Directors Maria Puiu and Adrian Buzatu, by co-opting a team of dedicated professionals and with the support of the entire CGDI team.
October 5, 2025 brought together researchers, students, doctors and science advocates in a race dedicated to health, education and research. Under the motto "Run for Genomics", we demonstrated that science doesn't just exist in labs, but comes to life through people - through energy, solidarity and a desire to build a better medical future.
We would like to thank the entire CGDI team for their involvement and all those who contributed to the success of this edition: institutional partners, volunteers, sponsors and the hundreds of participants who made the event a true celebration of research and community.
We particularly appreciate the support of our partners:
- University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" of Bucharest (UMFCD) - for the academic contribution and openness towards the integration of genomics in medical education;
- Faculty of Biology - University of Bucharest - for the energy of young researchers and their involvement in promoting science;
- Society of Medical Students of Bucharest (SSMB) - for the team spirit and exemplary involvement of volunteers;
- ANBRaRo - National Alliance for Rare Diseases Romania - for the constant commitment to support rare disease patients and their families;
- COPAC - the Coalition of Romanian Chronic Patient Organizations - for the strong voice for the patient community and support of personalized medicine;
- Friends of Genetics Association - for their dedication to making science accessible and relevant to society.
The kilometers have become symbols of involvement and solidarity in science. Thank you to every person who ran or supported Run for Genomics - you made it a memorable day for patients and the scientific community.
