UMFCD Days - NGS sequencing and bioinformatics analysis workshops

The participation of the CGDI at the UMFCD Days brought together students, alumni and specialists interested in modern genomics and its applications in personalized medicine.

In the framework of the events, Dr. Mircea Crețu, bioinformatician at the CGDI, held the workshop "Introduction to Genomics - Genomic Variant Identification" in the CieH/ICDG Data Analysis Laboratory. Participants explored essential concepts of genomic variant identification and data quality control, current techniques used in both research and clinical settings.

Conf. Dr. Relu Cocos, coordinator of genomic sequencing activities at the CGDI and Head of the Genomics Discipline at UMFCD, delivered the applied course "Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies - fundamentals, perspectives and bioinformatics analysis in personalized medicine". It integrated three practical bioinformatics modules, initiated and developed under his coordination:

▶️ Bioinformatics analysis of GWAS data (Lecturer: Theodora Vasile; CGDI)

▶️ Bioinformatics analysis of protein-protein interactions (PPI) from GWAS data (Lecturer: Alexandra Gheorghe; CGDI)

▶️ Bioinformatics analysis in the calculation of the polygenic risk score (PRS) (Lecturer: Irina Buzoescu; CGDI)

Also during the UMFCD Days, on November 20th, two guided tours in the Genomic Sequencing and NGS Technologies Laboratory of UMFCD (Genomics Discipline and Medical Genetics Discipline) took place, during which participants were familiarized with the infrastructure and workflows specific to next-generation sequencing technologies.

We particularly appreciated your interest, active participation and willingness to dialog on current developments in genomics and their applications. We hope that we have provided you with useful knowledge and relevant insights for your professional development and we look forward to welcoming you to future NGS workshops organized over several days, structured at different levels of training.

We look forward to welcoming you to the next events of the Institute for Research-Development in Genomics in collaboration with the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
