

The Institute for Research-Development in Genomics (CGDI) is honored to announce the participation of Director General Octavian Bucur, selected and invited to represent Romania and the CGDI/UMFCD as a presenter at the NATO Biotechnology Conference, held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The event brought together several hundred experts and representatives from NATO member countries.
The Director of the CGDI was invited by the Permanent Representation of Belgium to NATO to be part of the first panel of the conference, which brought together five internationally renowned experts representing the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Romania. The panel discussions focused on the strategic implications, opportunities and challenges posed by the rapid development of emerging biotechnologies in the field of defense and security. The Director-General of the CGDI emphasized, among other things, the importance of supporting and sustainably funding research in genomics, human sciences, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, highlighting their essential role in strengthening scientific and defense capabilities in the current global context of geopolitical challenges and sensitivities.
The participation of Romania and the CGDI in this event, as well as in the first panel of the conference, reflects the institution's continued commitment to promoting international dialog and cooperation on the responsible use of emerging technologies in the field of defense and security policy. This invitation also recognizes the expertise and efforts of the CGDI in the field of genomics at the international and national levels.
