Dr. Mircea Leabu, former Scientific Director of the "Victor Babeș" National Institute for Research and Development in Pathology and Biomedical Sciences, joins the development efforts of the GRDI

We are honored to have with us Dr. Mircea Leabu, former Scientific Director of INCD "Victor Babes" and with research experience in Canada, who will be primarily dedicated to the development and optimization of the operating, monitoring and evaluation regulations, as well as to the quality supervision of the research and administrative activities of the Institute. The work of Dr. Mircea Leabu in the Development, Marketing and Quality Management Department is particularly useful, given the launch of the ROGEN project and the exponential development of the Institute for Research-Development in Genomics during this period.

Dr. Mircea Leabu, CS I, served as Scientific Director of the National Institute of Pathology "Victor Babes", between 2014 and 2023 (where he worked since 2005 as Head of the Cell Biology Laboratory, then as Scientific Secretary, until he was appointed Director by competition) and was a lecturer at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest, in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, between 1991 and 2022.

Dr. Leabu attended the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the Technical University "Gheorghe Asachi" in Iasi, where he graduated at the top of his class, and for 11 years (between 1980 and 1991) he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Cell Biology and Pathology "Nicolae Simionescu", where he trained as a cell biologist. His entire career was devoted to the study of cell and molecular biology, and in 1999 he obtained a PhD in Medicine, specializing in Medical Biochemistry. Between 2000 and 2005, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Robarts Research Institute of the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, where he studied the mechanisms regulating cell morphology and motility.

In addition to his biomedical scientific work, he has given great importance to the field of ethics and bioethics, being an associate member of the Center for Research in Applied Ethics of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest since 2006 and President of the "Life Sciences" Commission of the National Council for Ethics in Scientific Research between 2008 and 2011.

He has published numerous scientific papers in national and international journals, focusing mainly on cell membrane studies, but has also published in the field of bioethics and professional ethics. He is also a member of seven scientific societies, including the Romanian Society of Cell Biology (founding member), the Romanian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Society of Immunology, the National Society of Medical Engineering and Biological Technology, the Romanian Society of Bioethics and the Romanian Society of Analytical Philosophy.

Thank you for your involvement, trust and help!
